Dunlop Riders Cap a Decade of Dominance in Supercross Finale
Buffalo,
NY: The 2019 season finale in Las Vegas marked a milestone in the history
of Dunlop’s Supercross racing program: For the tenth consecutive season, Dunlop
riders swept all three championships. No other tire company comes close to this
record.
The three riders who won
the championships had never won Supercross titles before, with both 250 East
and 250 West winners overcoming odds to do so.
In the 450 class, the
season started with multiple race winners until Red Bull KTM rider Cooper Webb
went on a mid-season tear. He would win seven times in the season, and make all
the right decisions at all the right times to build a massive 23 point lead
over Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac going into Vegas. Tomac won the race,
but Webb’s third place finish won him the battle for the title.
In the 250 SX East/West
shootout, Team Dunlop alumni Adam Cianciarulo looked to be solid for the 250SX
West title as he entered the finale with an eight point lead. Dylan
Ferrandis needed to win to have a chance to take the title and that’s what he
did. Cianciarulo suffered a crash that damaged
his bike, relegating him to a 20th place finish and crushed his championship dream. Ferrandis crossed
the line as the 2019 champion.
In the 250SX East championship, points
leader Chase Sexton—who was on the Team Dunlop Elite squad for six years—rode a
calculated race to finish fourth and take his first professional championship.
Sexton’s consistent riding throughout the season paid off for him and
ultimately delivered the championship.
With Sexton winning his
first supercross title, there are now eight Team Dunlop Elite alumni who have
won national championships, including Aaron
Plessinger, Justin Hill, Justin Bogle, Justin Barcia, Eli Tomac, Blake Baggett
and Ashley Fiolek.
“Dunlop would not have a ten-year win
streak without the leadership and hard work of
Broc Glover and Brian Fleck as well as
all the dedicated fitters on our team,” said Mike Buckley, Dunlop Motorcycle’s
Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “It is also very gratifying for us to
see the list of Team Dunlop Elite alumni who have won national championships
continue to grow with the addition this year of Chase Sexton. Supercross riders
have a choice in tires, and I want to thank all the riders who chose to race on
Dunlop tires in 2019.”
